Malak’s Internship Experience At Zendy

My name is Malak Mahmoud, and I am a Psychology student at RIT Dubai, about to enter my final year. In May 2026, I started my internship at Knowledge E as a Marketing Intern. This was my second time interning with Knowledge E. I had previously worked as an Events Intern, and after having such a great experience the first time, I was grateful to have the opportunity to return in a different role.

This time around, I was able to explore a completely different side of the company. As a Marketing Intern, I worked different tasks, including social media content, email marketing, client segmentation, blogs, and visual design. Every task taught me something new, and I especially enjoyed working on projects related to my interests.

One of the things I appreciated most was that, even though I was working in marketing, the team still gave me opportunities to explore my background in psychology. I worked on projects connected to my field, which included writing a blog about managing student stress and, most importantly, the opportunity to be the first speaker in Zendy’s new Bite-Sized webinar series for students and early-career researchers. I spoke about supporting mental health in research, which was a topic I was genuinely interested in. I prepared the presentation and spent time rehearsing the material, and then presented the session live on Zoom to registered participants. I also had the opportunity to answer questions from the audience, which meant thinking carefully about how to respond and communicate the information in a helpful and clear way. I was especially happy to see that the effort I put into preparing for the session was recognized, and the positive responses and engagement from the audience made the experience even more rewarding. 

Being the first speaker in a new webinar series was something I felt very honored and proud to be part of. It is one of the greatest achievements for my career. At the same time, it pushed me outside my comfort zone, especially because public speaking was a skill I had wanted to improve. Preparing for and delivering the session helped me become more confident in presenting information, speaking to an audience and responding to questions. 

Preparing the presentation helped me strengthen my ability to communicate information clearly, while presenting it pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become more confident speaking in front of an audience. I am really glad I was able to develop this skill through my internship while also working on projects that were personally meaningful to me. 

I also developed skills I had not expected to improve as much. Working on social media posts and visual content made me much more comfortable with Canva and strengthened my design skills. Client segmentation helped improve my research skills while giving me a better understanding of marketing concepts, terminology, and the tools and products used within the company. Although some of these areas were outside my academic background, they gave me a new perspective on how different parts of an organization work together.

Another part of the experience I valued was being trusted with more responsibility over time. At first, I needed guidance to understand certain tasks, but as I became more familiar with the work, I was able to complete tasks more independently. Seeing that progress was one of the most rewarding parts of the internship.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support I received from the team. Everyone was welcoming, patient, and willing to help whenever I needed it. Their guidance gave me the confidence to learn, make mistakes, improve, and eventually take ownership of my work.

Looking back, my time at Knowledge E has given me much more than marketing experience. It has helped me develop new skills, step outside my comfort zone, and gain confidence in my ability to learn outside my major. Most importantly, it reminded me that an internship does not have to be directly related to your degree to be valuable. I am grateful for everything I learned and for the people who made this experience so enjoyable and memorable. I will carry these lessons with me
